New York: On Wednesday May 3 at 12:00 noon, activists from the New York City Chapter of the National Organization for Women (NOW NYC) will hold a protest in front of Barnes and Noble, on the corner of 48th Street and 5th Ave, where Dr. Laura Schlessinger will be doing a book-signing for her new children's book, 'But I Waaannt It.' NOW activists will be handing out flyers and balloons with the message, 'We Want Equality!'

Dr. Laura has used her radio program to promote the belief that homosexuality and homosexuals are a 'biological mistake' and to argue against educational programs that teach children about alternative families.

'During her radio show, Dr. Laura has shown a complete lack of respect for a group of parents who work just as hard as she does raising their children - gay and lesbian parents,' said Nancy Millar, President of NOW-NYC. 'We call upon all of you who believe in fairness and equality to join us in showing Dr. Laura that you reject her message of hate.'

'Do we want someone who demonstrates such blatant bigotry and intolerance towards others teaching moral lessons to our children?' Asked Rachel Kramer Bussel, Chair of NOW-NYC's Lesbian/Bisexual Rights Committee. 'Dr. Laura's book is about teaching kids not to be materialistic. But there are other important lessons parents should be teaching children: respect for diversity.'
