LAURA ATTACKS GAYS YET AGAIN
Washington, DC - In a move called "the last straw" by gay civil rights
advocates, USA Today this morning revealed that in the introduction to her new book,
"Parenthood by Proxy," Dr. Laura Schlessinger makes a blistering attack on gays
and lesbians. She condemns what she calls the gay "lifestyle" as "sexual
deviancy," blasts the gay "agenda" for "undermining" the
definition of family, and laments the existence of same-sex marriage.
NEW BOOK TOUR BEING USED TO ADVANCE ANTI-GAY AGENDA
Schlessinger's just-begun big-money media tour touting her new book, has already been
tarnished by growing protests over her on-the-air remarks about gays and lesbians being
"biological errors," and about a "huge portion" gay men being
pedophiles. And while Paramount Television, which has announced its intent to syndicate a
TV show hosted by Ms. Schlessinger this fall, has promised that Schlessinger will not
create a climate of hate and intolerance for gays, many fear that promise is now broken.
THIS IS THE LAST STRAW
This is really the last straw. Dr. Laura is an anti-gay activist with a very clear agenda,
and she simply cannot control her own rhetoric. How many 'Dr. Laura eruptions' does
Paramount need before they get the picture?
According to USA Today, the introduction to Ms. Schlessinger's book says: "The agenda
of homosexual activists has moved past the demand for tolerance and respect to demanding
acceptance of homosexuality as healthy, normal and equivalent in every way to
heterosexuality. Necessary to advancing this agenda is undermining the significance of the
traditional definition of family as husband, wife, and children."
The newspaper reports that later on, in a chapter in which Ms. Schlessinger explains her
opposition to gay marriage, she says: "Political activists have successfully
repositioned sexual deviancy as a constitutionally protected 'lifestyle' equivalent in
every way to heterosexuality.... This is not about discrimination against homosexuals.
Same-sex marriage affects the child's right to have a parent of both sexes. These children
are not tragically
fatherless or motherless, but purposely fatherless or motherless. How dare a society
condone or encourage such loss!"
Schlessinger also tells USA Today that she has "tons of gay friends."

IMPLIES GAYS AREN'T HEALTHY OR NORMAL
In her latest attack on gays and lesbians, Laura Schlessinger accuses us of sexual
deviancy and undermining families, implies that we are neither healthy nor normal, and
suggests that we are unfit parents. And now she'll be using her subsidized book tour to
spread more disinformation about gays and lesbians. It's time to tell Paramount and Viacom
one more time that enough is enough. How many more time will Laura Schlessinger have to
call label us a "sexual deviancy" before they do the right thing?
FLIP-FLOPS ON RELIGIOUS DEFENSE
As an aside, USA Today says that Schlessinger is again claiming her views are
"religiously based," and that criticism of her is actually anti-religious
prejudice.
But Schlessinger herself has said repeatedly that her views on gays and lesbians are NOT
based on her religion, but rather on her "clinical" background ("Words that
I have used in a clinical context have been perceived as judgement." - Schlessinger,
March 10, 2000, Dr. Laura's Web site.)
She also has used her PhD in biology to defend her "clinical" analysis of gays
("Well my PhD is in physiology, so when I talk about biology, I'm talking about it
from a bio-clinical point of view" - May 7 FOX news interview, respond to the
"biological error" quote).
And, even more damning, she told Larry King on May 3 that "I'm not the expert"
regarding the origins of homosexuality. So next time Dr. Laura tries to defend her
"religious reasons" for calling a "huge portion" of gay men
pedophiles, be sure to ask her to explain her previous quotes that show her reasoning had
nothing to do with religion.
CALL PARAMOUNT AND VIACOM, THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS.

DR. LAURA ON GAY PEDOPHILES
"How many letters have I read on the air from gay men who acknowledge that a huge
portion of the male homosexual populace is predatory on young boys?"
- Dr. Laura quoted by Reuters/Variety, February 13, 2000
